Friends of Rudy Park,
More than a year ago, in this very space, we asked our readers whether they'd help support Rudy Park in light of changing economics in the comic strip industry. Overwhelmingly, you wrote back and said that you would help. We've (finally) figured out how you can do that. You can subscribe, as most of you suggested, but we hope you'll also do this:

Buy a book.

Actually, buy two.

Rudy Park is the creation of two fine gentlemen, writer Matt Richtel (aka Theron Heir) and illustrator Darrin Bell. Each of us has written a book. Matt has written a thriller and Darrin a collection of his other comic strip, Candorville. Please buy them, and support us. Here are the details:

From Matt comes the new thriller, Devil's Plaything, a fast-paced high-tech conspiracy. In a recent rave review, Publisher's Weekly wrote of Devil's Plaything: "Numerous plot twists and cliffhangers keep the reader turning the pages in this plausible if disquieting scenario of Big Brother not only watching but also messing with minds."

James Rollins, NY Times bestselling thriller writer, calls it "a brilliant thriller, a blend of Hitchcock and Crichton...From page one, you'll not be able to put this book down."

From Darrin Bell comes The Starbucks at the End of the World, the brand new, fourth collection of his popular syndicated comic strip Candorville. In this volume, Barack Obama’s historic election – not to mention Lemont’s journalism career – hinges on a secret mission to rescue a prisoner of war. Lemont survives Embedded Journalists Boot Camp, but can he survive the boat mission up Vietnam’s Nodung River with Anderson Cooper and a crew of misfit soldiers? And what horrifying secret awaits them at the river’s end?

At home, Susan dates the Boyfriend-from-Hell as her assistant Dick Fink tries to steal her job. C-Dog goes to unbelievable lengths to prove Lemont’s fiancee is cheating and that Lemont may not be Lionel’s father. And when comedian George Carlin dies, Lemont accompanies him on his final journey and accidentally discovers the meaning of life.

Candorville has been described as "This generation’s Doonesbury," and as "Black Doonesbury" by Darrin's barber. Contains a whopping 750 comics, and Darrin Bell’s 2008 election night blog post about watching the election of the first black president with his 90 year-old grandfather!

In conclusion, we would be grateful for your support. Per the posting below, our income from Rudy Park has fallen sharply in light of the shrinking and closing of newspapers, which used to pay our bills. To keep doing what we're doing, we need your support.

Sincerely,

Theron (aka Matt) and Darrin
